Re: Interesting Tire Chain Alternative (For short distances)

Hmm, might be interested. I like how they keep brake dust at bay. Much easier to keep clean since I never wash my truck.

Re: Interesting Tire Chain Alternative (For short distances)

I guess you could drill a few holes and they would work. Gorilla tape is another option.

What are you going to do with the rims you are running now when it comes time for new tires?

Re: Mating ranger tranny to c223

The ford starter relay is a good option. It's cheap, easy to find, and easy to wire. Make sure that you use a "momentary on" type switch to activate the relay. It is cheap, foolproof insurance that the glow plugs won't be left on accidentally.

Re: Mating ranger tranny to c223

Both ways will work fine. Joe's way is extra work in that you have to tap into the ignition somewhere. Important though if you want the system disabled with the ignition. Heathw's way is hot all the time, but easier to wire especially if the relay is right by the battery.

Re: Glow plug lamp and high coolant temps?

If it ends up being the alternator then you will know soon enough. I agree with the initial response made by andy about bad grounds, and, it may end up being the cause. But, I would definitely rule out the alternator first. Way easier to change an alternator than chase down a bad ground. Unfortunate...

Re: Just bought a 2" manifold!

Horsepower was 58 on the early models vs. 62 on the later model diesels. Part of the package was an intake manifold/air filter that was increased in size. I think the silencer box was also opened up a little on the inside. If I remember right the old bolts will work. Gasket should be off of the newe...

First gen p'up shackles

1982 chevy luv diesel 4x4 shortbed Mikado. The bed was rusted out around the wheelwells so it was tossed. I decided to make some longer shackles to compensate for the sagging springs. It's much easier to work on all this stuff with the bed removed. 1/4" x 1.5" plate steel on the shackle. 3...

Re: Glow plug lamp and high coolant temps?

I think that the coolant temp sensor is the ground point in that circuit. If it happens again then take note of what your fuel gauge is doing. The temp gauge and fuel gauge both operate on the same 7 volt circuit I believe.

I think it is a good idea to incorporate things like this into a pre-requisite to becoming a new member. It eliminates having to badger new members for their info while also helping to prevent people from getting their nose bent from said badgering.

Re: Mating ranger tranny to c223

The alternators pop up on ebay. New they are a couple hundred if I remember right but you should always verify that the vacuum pump is present as they can be hard to come by. And yes, you will need vacuum for the ranger brake booster. The sending unit is for the fuel gauge in the cab and is not affe...

Re: Mating ranger tranny to c223

I would try and keep the stock isuzu alternator functional so you can keep the stock vacuum pump. You won't find another vacuum pump that will match it for size and reliability. Like joeshmoe44883, I was not sure exactly what the question was about a sending unit. Do you mean fuel pump? Nice patchin...

Re: Glow plug lamp and high coolant temps?

I really can't remember all of the symptoms as it was about ten years ago. I do remember the glow plug light started to come on very dimly at times and it was only noticeable at night. If I remember right the glow indicator steadily got brighter and was on more of the time. Seems to me that the ligh...
